Thank you so much to the Hada and Bennett families for donating the delicious lunch and dessert for our party today.  We really appreciate your generosity.  The children worked so hard to "fill the bucket" and earn a reward.  What a great day it was for us in first grade! My apologies that the email I sent out about the pajamas never came through to you all.  The email is outing there floating in space somewhere:)  We'll be sure to have another pajama day during the year. 

We are quite excited about all the festivities going on next week. Looking forward to a fun week ahead. I hope you all have a restful weekend.  Enjoy this special time of year with your families.

First Grade Timeline Project

Thank you for all your help with the timeline project.  The students did an amazing job on this assignment.  It is always so much fun to see the students share their excitement!

A Few Happenings...

*Winterfest will be held next Wednesday, December 19th from 9:00-10:30.  All parents are most welcome to attend.  We will begin in the small gymnasium with holiday songs and then proceed to the Kindergarten and First grade classrooms for crafts.  Thank you in advance for all the food donations that help make our event possible.  We hope hope you can join in on the fun! 

*The GUTAG's sale begins tomorrow.  Students may bring in money of they'd like to purchase from the gently used and toy sale.  Thank you for all the donations.  We have a lot of wonderful items for sale. All proceed from the sale will go to Hurricane Sandy Relief and the Westmere School Playground fund.  

*All classes will be singing in the Holiday Sing Along in the front lobby directed by Mrs. Judy Russo.  Our time to sing is Friday, December 21st from 12:10-12:35.  Parent are welcome to come listen to us sing.

 Learning about what a typical day looks like for Mr. Mike, our head custodian.  We are working with our Caring Companions to learn different ways to help our community.  Next week we will start working with Mr. Mike a few minutes each day doing some of his jobs along with him.

Social Studies Teamwork!

Today we worked in teams to determine which items are "needs" and which are "wants".  Each team had to decide who would be in charge of cutting, pasting, and writing.  The kids were great at working together! All four teams came up with a different way to work together.  Very impressive:)

Thanksgiving Feast 2012

Last Wednesday the first grade classes celebrated Thanksgiving by having a feast together in the small gymnasium.  Students ate turkey sandwiches, bagels, corn chips, popcorn, pumpkin and chocolate chip cookies, and fruit.  Mrs. Judy Russo, our music teacher, taught the first graders a few Thanksgiving themed songs.  The kids did a great job learning the songs!

Voting in First Grade

This week we voted for our favorite cookie! Students were able to choose whether they liked a chocolate chip or sugar cookie baked by two of the first grade teachers.  Chocolate chip won!!!
